Dry Chemical Fire Protection System

How Dry Chemical Fire Protection Works

Dry chemical fire suppression systems are highly effective for protecting the engines of vehicles such as buses & coaches, as well as open chemical storage areas. The main advantage of the powder is that it acts very quickly at the heart of the fire, before it spreads to the rest of the protected area.

When a fire breaks out, the system detects it and is automatically activated, enabling a very fast response. The powder, which contains chemical agents, is sprayed directly into the fire, stopping the chain reaction, and quickly smothering the fire. The powder forms a protective layer over the engine, stopping the chain reaction and preventing the fire from reigniting.

The ABC dry chemical powder system is effective on:

  • Class A fires - surface fires of celluloid materials (wood, paper, cloth – anything that leaves an ash residue after combustion).
  • Class B fires - fires of flammable liquids and gases.
  • Class C fires - fires that involve energized electrical equipment.

Rotarex Firetec Dry Chemical System – FireDETEC for Vehicles

The FireDETEC® R107 Dry Chemical System is a comprehensive fire protection solution that uses a fluorine free powder as an extinguishing agent. It is certified according to UNECE R107 standard and protects engine compartments for passenger transportation vehicles of category M2 or M3, such as buses & coaches including Class 1 (for standing passengers), Class 2 (urban buses) and Class 3 (for seated passengers).

Rotarex FireDETEC® systems use a proprietary continuous linear pneumatic detection tube that reliably detects and actuates release of the extinguishing agent. It is more flexible, space efficient and cost effective versus alternative mechanical or electronic systems.

  • Quick & Easy installation inside equipment - closer to where fire starts.
  • Quick detection
  • Quick suppression

Dry Chemical System - Advantages

  • Protects engine compartments of all sizes. Only 4 kg of agent required for the protection of a standard engine compartment up to 4 m3.
  • Fast installation – No rigid piping required.
  • High-quality, high-temperature resistant flexible hoses to withstand the initiation of fire inside the compartment.
  • Powder is effective on Class A, B and C fires.
  • Dry chemical systems can be easily integrated into engine configurations, even where space is limited.

Dry Chemical Fire Protection System for Buses

The Dry Chemical Fire Protection System plays a vital role in buses, where safeguarding passengers and the driver is paramount, by being installed directly in engine compartments to detect and suppress fires almost instantaneously with its ABC dry chemical agent. Our FireDETEC ® vehicle fire protection system utilizes FUREX ABC 770, a fine, off-white to pale yellow powder coated with silicone to enhance water repellency and flow. This extinguishing agent delivers immediate fire suppression and can be applied universally across a wide range of burning materials. Unlike water, FUREX ABC 770 is non-conductive and remains effective at low temperatures, ensuring reliable performance under diverse conditions.

Open chemical storage protection

The ABC90 chemical protection system is specially designed to protect open storage areas for chemicals, where flammable liquids, gases, and combustible solids pose significant risks, by quickly detecting and suppressing flames. When activated, it releases a fine silicone-coated ABC90 powder that smothers the fire to interrupt the combustion reaction. Whether installed at height or deployed via mobile units, this system provides rapid extinguishing of Class A, B, and C fires without the problems of electrical conductivity of water or the cold limitations of other agents, making it ideal for warehouses, processing facilities, and loading areas requiring reliable and immediate fire control.

Dry Chemical Fire Protection System

Dry Chemical Fire Protection – FAQ
What is a dry chemical fire protection system?

A dry chemical system is a fire protection system using dry chemical powder to extinguish a fire. Dry chemical system automatically detects and extinguishes a fire directly at its source before it spreads.

Why use a dry chemical extinguishing system?

A dry chemical system has several benefits:

  • It acts very quickly at the heart of the fire to stop it before it spreads. The powder forms a protective layer over the engine, stopping the chain reaction.
  • It adapts to vehicle engines by integrating easily into small spaces.
What are the advantages of Dry Chemical System?
  • Fast and easy installation – No rigid piping required.
  • Powder is effective on Class A, B and C fires.
  • The powder acts very quickly at the heart of the fire.
  • Dry chemical systems can be easily integrated into small configurations, even where space is limited.
  • High-quality, high-temperature resistant flexible hoses to withstand the initiation of fire.
